Marine Engineering & Maritime Technology (MEMT)
The Technical committee is involved in advancement of marine engineering and marine technologies. The TC covers all sectors in Marine engineering, marine technologies, ship technologies, offshore technologies and energy.
The safe use, exploitation, protection of, and intervention in, the marine environment is key to the development of the maritime industry. This involves research into suitable technologies and application of appropriate technologies. Technological revolution has affected industries and industrial application with no exception to the maritime industry. It is thus important that merchant navy officers keep abreast with the industrial revolution in knowledge and application of such knowledge.
Areas of interest and priority include:
- Marine engineering
- Offshore and ocean engineering
- Navigation, terminal and harbour engineering
- Naval architecture and ship building technologies
- Ship technologies
- Maritime energy management
- Smart technologies e.g. smart ports and autonomous ships
Collectively identified the work of the TC as maritime technologies is key to the professional development of merchant navy officers. The TC provides a repository and platform for engaged in new technologies. This is in addition to best practices and as a community of practice for the engineering officers.
