The Association
The Association of Maritime Practitioners (Kenya) is a professional association of Merchant Navy Officers and related maritime professionals.The Association primarily advances the interest of Merchant Navy Officers and affiliated Maritime practitioners in Kenya. This is with the aim to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas on pertinent matters within the maritime industry and to avail a platform for engaging stakeholders in maritime industry affairs.
As a professional association, membership is acquired through proven qualifications in addition to industry experience. The defining qualification for the Merchant Navy Officers is a Certificate of Competence (CoC).The technical committees ensure that professional opinion and advice is fed back to the industry’s decision making bodies.

The Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is responsible for day to day running of the Association. The membership includes the designated officers and select members as defined by the constitution including the Chairpersons of the Technical Committees.

Objectives
The Objectives of the Association are summarized as:
- Advising on matters concerning maritime affairs
- Cooperation and affiliation in Maritime Education and Training
- Advancement of the members’ interest in maritime affairs
- Advancing maritime knowledge through appropriate media including periodicals and a professional journal.
- Establishing activities that are relevant to the advancement of maritime affairs.
The Council
The Council is the Policy and Advisory body of the association. The composition includes the executive committee and select members as defined by the constitution.
Eminent Fellows of the Association
The fellows primarily offer advisory to the council and the executive committee. Election to the fellows’ forum follows the guidelines set by the constitution.
